The Life and Times of Ross Burns
John Crossingham introduced Ross Burns for a Classification Talk, indicating that Ross bought John's parents' home when he located himself in Niagara. Ross was born in Toronto, and lived in a bucolic setting of ravines in "North" Toronto - now central Toronto. He was influenced by an older brother, and heavily influenced by the few years in which his grandmother lived with the family. He spoke of the influences exerted by his father, his mother, Bedford Park School and Lawrence Park. He spoke of Victoria College, and Collegiate, Osgoode Law School.
Ross was shocked at the hours required of articling students, having observed the hours of the partners. His interest in transportation law led him to become a long-serving employee with the MTO, as Senior Counsel leading prosecutions with regard to road safety. His relocation to Niagara pleased his stockbroker/horserace-loving father. Ross' career and its focus on road safety has led him to participate on many committees helping to assure good relations economically with the USA, and reciprocity issues. His involvement in this increased subsequent to 9/11.
Ross is committed to his community, his church, and to Rotary. His private life takes him to Westport, cottage country north of Kingston. Ross expressed his appreciation for the welcome and friendship he has experienced in Rotary.
Judith Barker thanked Ross, as did President Larry, with a donation in Ross' name for demining in Afghanistan.
