Peggy Davidson told us that the February 9 meeting will be a special Valentine's Day Dinner at the Niagara Culinary Institute. Mark Hand will be our speaker. The cost is $39 per person. Maurice Gomme spoke about the Corbey-Taylor Kilimanjaro Climb. Members and friends can pledge $/ft in support of the 15,000 ft. climb. If you pledge $1 per 100 feet, and they make it to the top, then your support would amount to $150. The money raised will support Not Just Tourists, the pharmaceutical supply program created and operated by the Taylors and their 24 volunteers. This program is very cost effective: there is no rent, no employees, no utilities and the shipping containers are donated suitcases. Ken and Denise have kicked in about $15,000 to purchase antibiotics, a form of drug that is always in short supply. To date $2,800 has been pledged for the climb.
Fred Farnham spoke about Slapshot, a District (unofficially) youth program. They are proceeding with their approval pending until ‘apprehended'. They have vacancies for 30 to 90 youth aged from 16 to 18 years. While it is intended that this program will operate eventually in parallel to Camp Enterprise, there is guaranteed to be no conflict this year because there will not be a Camp Enterprise this year.
President Larry announced that the Board has allowed our Club's name to be placed on a Fetal Monitor in recognition of our donation of Nevada earnings from many years. In addition in recognition of our Club's support for Bethlehem Place's current project, our Club name will be placed on the Accessibility features.
President Larry gave the 10-day notice required for our Club to discuss and vote on a proposed donation of $25,000 per year for 3 years commencing with ground breaking for the Hospice Palliative Care Centre. This proposal has been approved by both the Major Grants Committee and the Board of Directors.

Terry Wilkes collected. He led off by recounting his 5-day horseback ride in the Rockies last summer. He characterized the ride as the ‘Ride from Hell'. At one point they were in a pass at 9,500 ft. on a trail 18'' wide with a 500 ft. drop on each side of the ‘trail'. Add to this that visibility was almost zero from a blinding blizzard. Add to this that it rained 4 days out of 5! Their accommodation was a wilderness lodge with the operative word ‘wilderness'. Terry's room had a single and one bunk bed. He roomed with his brother and a woman from Ottawa. She took the top bunk and Terry's brother took the single. Terry slept 4 nights with a lady on top every night!
Dave McAdam thanked everyone for sending birthday emails to Betty Complin on her 90 th .
Rachel Delaney was happy to have attended a WCS meeting at Dr. Ken Taylor's home where wine was served! Rachel commented on what an amazing operation Not Just Tourists has become.
Ken Taylor remarked on the amazing turnout that can be achieved with a promise of wine. He thanked our Club members for 12 years of support.
Howard Lackie remarked, “no mountain climbing, no horseback rides through mountain passes” but he was happy to have participated in the Friday the 13 th Ride to Port Dover last Friday.
Fred Farnham was happy that we allowed him to announce Slapshot.
Art Wing was happy to recognize Fred Farnham's very active support for RYLA.
Betty-Lou Souter was happy to welcome Jane to our Club and for Heather Combe's help with her husband's dog.
Doug Geddie was happy to announce that the Rotary Can-Am Bonspiel was starting today and that our Club, Rotary South and the Grimsby Rotary Club are collaborating on hosting.

50/50 Draw:
Betty-Lou won the honor but she drew the 7 of spades.

Bill Cole introduced Sangeeta Hollo. She was born in Hamilton and raised in St. Catharines. She earned a Master's in Accounting from University of Waterloo. She was Audit Manager at Deloitte Touche LLP for 10 years. She is now the Internal Audit Manager at Home Savings. Sangeeta has been our Club Treasurer for 5 years. She has been married for 7 years and has a two-year-old son.
Sangeeta presented our statements using PowerPoint and had large-print copies on the tables. She provided reasons for significant variations form last year. She noted that due to the delay of the Golf Tournament in 2005, it fell into the 2006 accounting year and we will show two tournaments in the 2006 results. Ouradministration wages were a little higher than previous years because we had two people employed during the training period.
On a motion from Tim Rigby and Seconded by John Snowling, McGillivray Partners LLP will audit our books again next year. On a motion by Maurice Gomme and Seconded by Peter Mahoney, our Operating and Capital Budgets were approved.
George Irvine proved by the content of his thank-you message that he had remained awake through the Club Assembly. He appreciated the large print and remarked that the more numbers there were in such a report the poorer the project. He believes that a little Miscellaneous can go a long way. He noted that while Sangeeta's report had no ‘Miscellaneous' column, it did have Sundry in two places at dramatically different amounts ($562 vs. $10,266). George awaits an explanation…
President Larry thanked Sangeeta and remarked that the first year he acted as Treasurer he thought the job was ‘fun'; the second year it was ‘interesting', but, by the third year he had ‘had enough'!
President Larry announced the results of the Election of Directors. He thanked all for allowing heir names to stand. The new directors for 2006 – 2008 will be:
- John Crossingham
- Peggy Davidson
- Peter Mahoney
- Brian Stewart

In 1910, a motion was proposed that Rotary have a magazine – this was turned down because some feared a centralized voice for Rotary. Paul Harris responded by writing a 6,000 word essay (this bulletin is about 1,500 words) and having 2,000 copies printed as a pamphlet and circulated to the clubs.
In 1911 a magazine was though to be a good idea after all.
In 1912 it was renamed the International Rotarian.
