St. Catharines Ice Dogs
Stuart Butler introduced Dave Morgan, General Manager for the St. Catharines Ice Dogs. Dave has moved to Virgil and has three children. He asked us to listen to the games on 610 or watch them live at Jack Gatecliff Arena or on Cable 10.
Dave Brown opened by remarking on the warm reception the team has received form St. Catharines. He went on to say that the OHL is “all about good people”. While he is in a business where the win/loss record is important, their focus is on rounding out his young athletes’ maturity. He cautions us that while the quality of hockey is quite good, we will still see lots of mistakes being made on the ice. The players must remain in school while maintaining a tough practice and game schedule. Five of his players attend Brock University; seven are at Niagara College; and, the remainder are in Governor Simcoe. He stressed that corporate partners are essential to his teams well being and places community service as one of the important goals they have. They have no wins yet!
Bill McKay wanted to know the names of the potential stars: Jason Bergeron and Mike Swift were two that Dave singled out.

George Darte has purchased 4 season tickets and believes that the high level of hockey that we will see at Jack Gatecliff Arena will impress us all. He asked us all to go and see them play.
President Tom thanked our speaker and presented him with a dictionary that is being donated in his name. He added that an Ice Dog Game might be a Rotary Family outing opportunity.

Julie Dennis, Executive Director, Bethlehem Projects of Niagara.
